Make the reservation fit the night

“Where should we go?” gets easier when you stop trying to find one place that does everything.

A late brunch, a dinner built around the food, rooftop drinks and a long conversation all ask for something different. Choose the occasion, the company and how much of the evening you want planned. Then pick the place.

Here are four starting points across West Hollywood and Beverly Hills. They’re separate plans, not a four-stop itinerary.

Start earlier on Sunset

The Butcher, The Baker & The Cappuccino Maker—BBCM—is at 8653 West Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood. Its breakfast, brunch and lunch service make it a daytime option when you want to meet before the evening gets away from everyone.

A daytime catch-up also leaves room for whatever comes next. Check the current menu and booking details directly; a weekend reservation and a spontaneous weekday lunch are different propositions.

Let dinner have your attention

Funke in Beverly Hills centers its Italian cooking on handmade pasta. If that is the draw, give dinner enough time. Read the current menu, make the reservation, and resist packing the evening so tightly that you’re watching the clock between courses.

There’s a lot to be said for doing one thing well. A good table, the right people and time to talk can be the entire plan.

Go upstairs for the rooftop setting

Dante Beverly Hills is on the ninth-floor rooftop of The Maybourne Beverly Hills, at 225 North Canon Drive. The setting gives you a clear reason to choose it when rooftop drinks or dinner are part of the occasion.

Be specific when you book. Restaurant dining and Dante Poolside are distinct offerings. Confirm which space your reservation covers, along with any current access requirements.

Leave room for an old-school LA table

The Polo Lounge at The Beverly Hills Hotel offers indoor and patio dining, with breakfast, brunch and dinner menus. It belongs in the conversation when the room itself is part of why you’re going.

Ask about seating when you reserve. A patio meal and an indoor booth can suit very different conversations, even at the same restaurant.

Make the evening easy on yourself

Build around one anchor reservation. Check the route, parking or valet arrangements, and how everyone is getting home. Leave enough room between plans that you can actually enjoy them.

When we talk about a move, these are useful details too. Where do you meet friends? Where do you work? Which routines are you keeping, and which do you want to change?

Bring that into the conversation. We’ll look at homes and locations with your actual life in mind.
